We're Pregnant - 3 Ways Of Sharing the News

You have taken the test, watched the window for the two little lines and celebrated the news that you are expecting a little one. Now you want to share that news in a way that is as creative and special as possible. So no matter if you tell everyone right away or wait awhile here are some ideas on how to make your announcement.

Humour

One of the most popular ways of announcing a pregnancy is with a touch of humour, like the woman who put a bun in the oven. When her husband returned from work, she asked him to get dinner out of the oven. I know. It is so clich?d, but it is a cute way to let your spouse know. What happens though if he simply turns around and says, 'What, all we're having is a dinner roll!'

For those of you with awesome (but slower) halves, why not put the positive pregnancy test in an envelope marked 'Special Delivery'. That should hit the nail on the head more soundly.
The traditional, 'Hi, honey, how was your day? Oh, by the way, we're pregnant', is pretty boring. On a side note you may want to put the test in a plastic baggie if your partner is on the squeamish side!

Is there a special family gathering in the near future? Get 2 custom T-shirts made, one saying "Mommy" and one saying "Daddy", and wait for people to notice.

Holidays

Holidays are a great time to share the news, as many families have special gatherings then. One couple I know used their Thanksgiving family tradition to tell their family. When
children passed out card stock leaves to everyone to write down what they
were thankful for that year, Tom and Lisa wrote that they are thankful they will be bringing a new baby to Thanksgiving dinner next year.

My husband and I found out we were pregnant six weeks before Christmas and decided to keep the news to ourselves until Christmas Eve, at which time we gave our parents small ornaments engraved with Grandma and Grandpa on each one. The reaction this received was wonderful plus they will always have a keepsake to remind them of the happy news.

If you are able to keep the news to yourself long enough you could make the announcement by using your ultrasound picture as the photo for your holiday card or letter and 'show off' your baby to family and friends via email and snail mail. Immediate family members would probably not appreciate the e-mail method, so make sure you can get reprints at the local photo store for inserting with a holiday card.

Gifts

You could make the announcement to family members by giving them a personalized gift. There are many different retail businesses out there that specialize in engraving or custom printing. This allows you to create a keepsake for your family and friends of this special time in your life. The following are a few ideas that you can use or modify to suit your personality.

  • Give a small framed copy of the ultrasound picture.
  • T-shirts that are personalized with the title of the person you are giving to, for example; Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt, Uncle, ect.
  • Have a fridge magnet personalized for each family member that says "World's Greatest ______" and fill in the blank with the appropriate title.

And Finally ...

Have fun as you decide how to surprise and delight the ones you love with the news that your family is expanding.
